A „The Sound of Silence” a Simon & Garfunkel amerikai folk-rock duó dala, amelyet Paul Simon írt. A duó stúdiómeghallgatása lemezszerződéshez vezetett a Columbia Recordsnál; az eredeti akusztikus változatot 1964 márciusában rögzítették a *Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.* című debütáló albumukhoz. Az album abban az évben októberben jelent meg, ám eladási mutatói kiábrándítóak voltak. A következő évben megjelent egy elektromos hangszerekkel kiegészített, átdolgozott változat, amely a Billboard kislemezlistájának élére került.
"The Sound of Silence" is a song by the American folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, written by Paul Simon. The duo's studio audition led to a recording contract with Columbia Records; the original acoustic version was recorded in March 1964 for their debut album, *Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.* The album was released in October of that year, but its sales figures were disappointing. The following year, a reworked version—supplemented with electric instruments—was released and reached the top of the *Billboard* singles chart.
